The Learn What Matters (LWM) Foundation, established in 2018, is dedicated to empowering high school students to invest in their personal development and increasing high school alumni engagement.

To carry out this mission, we provide scholarship packages to high school students who are:

  • lifelong learners

  • eager to invest in their personal development

  • on a mission to make a positive difference in the world

  • excited to become engaged high school alumni after they graduate

At the LWM Foundation, we’ve created a scholarship package that is as revolutionary as our applicants. Here’s what we came up with:

Our scholarship packages are comprised of financial grants, mentorship, and coaching sessions.

Don’t get us wrong. Money’s great.

But we believe that students who receive mentoring and coaching in addition to monetary awards are better equipped to invest in themselves and crush their goals.

Recipients of our scholarship packages will also get access to one-year-long mentorship from the LWM Foundation selection committee and a 90-minute “Navigating Your Personal Development Journey” coaching session.

We select scholarship package recipients based on two factors: 1) how they answer our application questions, and 2) the strength of their recommendation letter.

...that’s it. Neither GPA, standardized test scores, number of extracurricular activities, nor financial need are considered in the scholarship selection process.

Our ideal applicant will showcase their passion, creativity, and commitment to personal development and their goals using clear, specific language. As far as recommendation letters go, we want to hear from anyone in your life who can vouch for you and explain why you’re perfect for this scholarship package. Anyone. That’s right. The recommendation letter can come from a teacher, coach, or supervisor, but doesn’t need to.

Students from all grade levels are welcome to apply, and we of course award scholarship packages without regard to race, religion, ethnicity, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, or physical handicap.

Our application questions can be answered in three ways.

Some young people are good at writing. Others are better at art or graphic design. And some are stronger speakers.

We want you to be able to answer our application questions in whatever way you’re most comfortable with. That’s why each question can be answered in writing, with a video, or through an illustration.

The financial grant can be used for almost any form of education.

We believe that college or university isn’t for everyone. That’s why our financial grants can be used toward any form of education that you feel will help you invest in your personal development and bring you closer to accomplishing your goals.

This includes but isn’t limited to: two or four-year college tuition, online courses, coding bootcamps, sports training, fitness classes, retreat or conference fees, and all forms of coaching.

Through our out-of-the-box philosophy on giving scholarship packages, we believe we will inspire greater impact.

Will you be our first recipient? Are you ready to apply?

The first LWM Foundation scholarship package will be awarded to a student at Freehold High School in June 2019 through the Freehold Regional High School District Scholarship Application Platform. If interested, applications will open in February and you can apply here.

We plan to expand nationally during the 2019–2020 school year.
